Many institutions value nurse navigation for patients that have been diagnosed with breast cancer. For that patient, the journey of being diagnosed with breast cancer involve so many important and emotional procedures and processes that happen before that diagnosis was made including imaging services, a biopsy recommendation, the biopsy procedure, biopsy results delivery, and a surgical referral. Who helped navigate the patient through that journey? Often, these functions are performed by multiple people including the patient's primary care physician which may not be the most efficient method of service delivery for the patient. This presentation will discuss what breast imaging navigation is, why it is important, and the basics of how it is done, including some pointers on how to start a breast imaging navigation program.
