Resilience Course Description The pandemic changed the way most Americans lived and worked. We were buried in a state of high stress and uncertainty. This new state of being altered many people’s perceptions and desires. This time period was filled with needs-based behaviors particularly those centered around safety and well-being. Drug and alcohol dependency sky-rocketed and many stopped seeking healthcare altogether. We lost loved ones, and our priorities shifted. Post-pandemic we experienced the Great Resignation, as workers in all industries decided to quit working altogether. Healthcare had some of the highest resignation rates, particularly among those over 50. While the highly regulated healthcare industry has always had its share of challenges, the previous challenges do not seem to compare to what we are facing in the post-pandemic era. The American Psychological Association (APA), defines resilience as an opportunity for meaningful personal growth through the process of adapting to difficult circumstances with the knowledge that the circumstances do not govern an individual’s outcome but allow room for improvement. In this course, we will discuss the post-pandemic challenges, both from an individual perspective and that of medical imaging administrators. We will discuss the psychological and physical realities that may create the need for different policies and practices going forward. We will discuss avenues for changing our perspective, maintaining a sense of self, taking care of ourselves, building a strong support system, and how to best help our teams. This will be reinforced with a group exercise.
